"I am fascinated with the way we see colour and how it influences the way we feel. For this piece I wanted something bold and colourful, that would match Frida in my new cushion collection – and I started playing around with using ONE colour as the base for all of the colours in the artwork. The reference already had beautiful dark skin and red glasses, and it just flowed after I decided to use Alizarin Crimson as that starting point – for her skin, the shadows, hair, and even the highlights. The effect is colourful and contrasting, but also monochrome and therefore calming in a way."
