"Seahorses are extraordinary creatures, and New Zealand waters are home to the Big-bellied seahorse, one of the largest species of seahorse in the world, reaching up to 35cm in length. They live in shallow water, foraging among algae, seagrass, and reefs. The male seahorse can brood between 300 and 700 young seahorses at a time. Their colouring varies from shades of yellow to brown. Marine photographer Darryl Torckler gave me permission to paint from his amazing photos."
