“I fell in love with Frida Kahlo while researching her for this painting which was a gift for a friend’s Mexican-themed engagement party. I loved her passion for colour and quirkiness, but most of all, her story of incredible lifelong pain from an accident when she was 18. This resonated with me as I have had Fibromyalgia (a central nervous system dysfunction that causes constant widespread pain and mobility issues) from roughly the same age. Frida was bedridden in a full-body cast for months and started painting to kill time and alleviate pain. Her works tell stories of pain and loss but, most of all, resilience and love. I also paint to help my pain levels and mental health.”
