"I went to Kaikoura in 2022 to participate in the great whale count of humpback whales, travelling from the South to warmer waters to birth calves. One of them breached twice incredibly close to shore, which was amazing to witness. Southern whale numbers are thought to be on the increase, and this gives me some hope."
